Notifications
AssetHermit tells you when something in a workspace needs you, in your inbox, by email.
Each notification asks you to do something: open the page that fixes it, act on it right there, or say you're handling it. Notifications are sent when something changes, not each time a sync sees the same problem.
- An alert is about a condition, such as an asset source that can't sync. It stays open while the condition lasts, and resolves by itself, everywhere at once, when it ends. A second failure updates the open alert instead of sending another.
- A notice is about something that happened once, such as a first sync finishing.
What you're told
| Notification | Sent when | Actions |
|---|---|---|
| An asset or cost source is failing Alert | A sync finds permissions missing, or fails | Fix permissions, Sync now, I'm on it |
| Cost data is behind Alert | A cost source syncs, but its export brings no new days | Open the cost source, I'm on it |
| A template needs updating Alert | What you deployed in your cloud is older than the template AssetHermit now generates | View changes |
| Findings opened Notice | A sync opens findings, at or above the severity you choose | Review findings |
| Cost anomaly Alert | A cost sync finds an anomaly over your threshold, until someone reviews it | Expected, Not expected, Open |
| Savings this week Notice | On Mondays, when there are new savings opportunities | Open Savings |
| First sync finished Notice | A new asset source's first sync finishes | Open inventory |
| New accounts Notice | A connected organization or tenant has accounts it didn't have before | Review scope |
Reacting
- I'm on it takes an alert: everyone sees who has it, and it stops the reminder. An alert nobody takes becomes critical after a day.
- Inline actions, such as Sync now or Expected, do what the page's own button does, with your role.
- Read, done, snooze (up to 30 days) and mute (this kind about this source, or this kind at all) change only your own inbox.
The inbox
The bell in the top bar counts what's unread across your workspaces and opens your notifications. The inbox page has tabs for Inbox, Snoozed and Done, with filters for workspace, category and alerts. Each workspace's dashboard lists its open alerts under Needs attention, with who has taken them.
- Workspace admins get critical alerts by email at once, and anyone gets what they choose to receive immediately. What arrives within two minutes goes out as one email, and at most ten an hour per workspace.
- Everything else can go into a daily digest at the hour you choose, in your time zone: the alerts still open, what arrived and what resolved.
- An email's buttons open AssetHermit at the notification, signed in, where the action is one click. Nothing changes just because a link in an email was opened.
- Every email has a one-click unsubscribe for its category, and you can pause all email.
Settings
Each person chooses, per workspace and category (collection, findings, costs and workspace), whether it reaches their inbox and whether it's emailed at once, in the digest or not at all, plus the lowest finding severity and the anomaly size they want to hear about. Workspace admins set the workspace's defaults. Viewers get notifications in their inbox only, until they choose more, and aren't told about collection problems, which are for admins to fix.
Where notifications live
Notifications are stored in the workspace's own region, encrypted with its key. Emails carry names, counts and amounts, never your cloud's raw data or cost rows.
